I suggest you give it a try if you ever get the chance.. Another game with an artistic vision but no game design skills. This is some of the worst gameplay I've experienced in a long time.- Pixel hunting. Those tiny hit boxes are simply wrong.- Poor controls. I've been patient with them, because they kind of fit the squid theme, but they are quite wearisome nonetheless.- Deplorable visibility. Interesting art, incompetent presentation. The squid camouflaged over the train. Things of interest hidden in backgrounds. Doors tiny (I often get stuck inside rooms.) Now remember the tiny hit boxes.- Grind. Lots of things need a repeat. After charging the train 37 identical times, I almost left. But I'm stubborn. The tornado room, however... well, I passed it, obdurately, yet I knew, grinding it, that it would be the last. I'm done. When a game feels like labour, it's a fail.- Shall I mention the sad, sad GUI ? I mean, there is a mini-menu, sort of. Okay, I don't mention it.You can solve most puzzles, really, just by clicking randomly or shaking the squid until something moves. The others will require even more patience, but no more than 1 gray cell.. I don't know what I just played. Is it good though? The art sure is nice with a sort of ghothic noir steampunk setting and an eerie soundtrack.Controls are physics based which was pretty cool albeit a little difficult to control at times. My problem with this game is that it is most definitely unfinished as it ends abruptly and has no explanation. There's a panel at the bottom of the train control room which indicates which area or biome you're in. There's 3 of them. However, before the game ends, you only manage to visit one, the area you started in. *Achievments don't work for all users*. Dark Train is a beautiful, wonderful game. While the developers have termed it "tamagotchi"-style, this description woefully underdescribes the gameplay, which is very much puzzle-oriented. Nominally, one must keep the train supplied with electricity, fire, and water, but there are no dire consequences to allowing any of these to run out: One must simply wait for the required resources to come along, and then once any puzzle at hand has been solved, one is gothily chugging away down the tracks once again. There are a few "secret" areas that can be missed if you aren't actively trying to find them, but bypassing them won't impede gameplay. The puzzles aren't incredibly hard or anything, but they're all enjoyable and certainly nontrivial, and the art and sound are an absolute feast. It's worth playing Dark Train simply to absorb the delicious atmosphere; Dark Train is replayable simply for that experience. My only real complaint is that the game ends abruptly -- one may be expecting two more equally-sized parts to the game based on visual clues in the control box, but those are apparently planned for future updates, which I will hungrily devour when released.. Pros: Really nice easthetics. At the beginning it was tough to get the mechanics, but there are hints what to do, you just need to know where to look. Also, If you are Czech as me, you would appreciate several "Easter eggs" - little details where you could notice that it was developed by your fellow countrymate.Cons: The game ends at the best moment and it begs for more content. It feelt kinda incomplete.I definitely recommend this game, especially if you are into Samorost, Machinarium and this sort of games.. I'm likely the stupidiest person in the world, but I seriously don't get it - do I click or move? Who knows trial by error, why am I doing what I'm doing? No idea, don't really care either.Did look nice thoughBut seriously - don't bother playing, just watch some walkthrough on YouTube for exactly the same experience.. If I had to drescribe this game with one word, I would go with "different", because it IS different. In more words, it is poetic, original, fascinating. Some puzzles are easy, some are not. And the amazing thing is, that the game is not using any text. You have to figure everything by yourself, and that is really the fan part.I have finished my first run through it today, and found out, how much I have missed. So I will play it again (and probably again).. Another game with an artistic vision but no game design skills. This is some of the worst gameplay I've experienced in a long time.- Pixel hunting. I hesitate to call it a point-and-click adventure because the mechanics are deeper and more creative than what one would usually find in that genre. I hope the developers create the other two stages that you can see on the progress map, I will be a customer.
